Illinois Runs Charities
Illinois Runs Training Programs has partnered with a few charities to
give you a good reason to run this year's Bank of America Chicago
Marathon.

Running for a charity will help get you out of bed on those mornings
you need to get that long run in.

If you need a good reason to motivate you to get to the finish line of
this year's Bank of America Chicago Marathon, you should look into one
of the charities below!
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation seeks to "Never Forget"
the sacrifices that have been made for the city of Chicago, its
citizens, and businesses when an Officer is killed in the line of
duty or meets with a catastrophic injury. The Foundation has
been organized for the purpose of paying tribute and providing
assistance to those Chicago Police Officers and/or their families
who live each and every day to provide for us.
EMERGENCY is an international organization founded in Italy by the
famous war surgeon Dr. Gino Strada in 1994.  EMERGENCY was
founded on the fact that in today’s conflicts, more than 90% of the
victims are civilians, of which more than 1/3 are children.

EMERGENCY is an independent, neutral, not-for-profit organization
that provides free of charge, high standard medical/surgical care in
war torn areas and seeks to promote a culture of peace, solidarity,
and respect for human rights.  EMERGENCY establishes long-term,
sustainable interventions that help to build local capacity and
develop infrastructure.  In fact, more than 90% of the staff in all of
its facilities are indigenous to the surrounding area and are trained
on-site.  The goal of each EMERGENCY project is to see them
become self-sustainable professionally and economically and
eventually to transfer them to the local authorities, thereby
completing the program.  In just 13 years, medical and surgical
assistance and rehabilitation has been provided to more than 2.4
million people amidst the most dire of circumstances.  EMERGENCY’s
major areas of operations are in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone,
Cambodia, and most recently Sudan.

In order to avoid blurring the line between military and
humanitarian intervention, EMERGENCY never aligns itself
operationally nor financially with military intervention nor
governments that are waging war.  To read more about
